Progress Report - March 2009

Amos' wife Gracious expected a baby - due at the end of March 2009.

A few days before her due date, she had to be admitted to hospital after blood pressure problems were diagnosed.

Shortly after admission, she was transferred to another hospital. There were complications. The baby was lying incorrectly and it looked as if a caesarean would have to be performed.

TheAmost Better Life Foundation(trust) supported the family by providing them with amongst others nappies and other essentials to care for the new born on arrival at their home.

27 March: The morning started off on a sad note:

Isabel spoke to Gracious the evening of the 26th at 17:00 and she was on the verge of being operated. As emerged the next morning, the caesarean was never performed. The reasons for this are not known. During the night the baby was born, but died during birth. It was a boy.

Amos never saw the baby. When he arrived at the hospital he was informed that the baby's body had already been removed.

Please support them in your thoughts. It is a great loss to deal with and the hospital staff did not show a lot of concern or support. Gracious was discharged within a few hours...

In this time of distress Amos landlord cut off the power because, according to him, Amos uses too much power (power usage was included in the rent – but what can you do?). He also insisted on a massive rental increase and left Amos no choice to move. He is now paying rent of R700 per month to provide shelter for his family.

The May issue of Rooi Rose will carry an article on Amos and his story.
